Over the past year, I have been working on a new series of works that are painted from life. Color and rawness has been a major part of each composition. Most of the compositions are somewhat static and centralized.  I have found common themes, using shells often, and a favorite crab shell I found on a beach north of San Francisco (Bolinas). I have a better understanding of the color orange and green after painting these works, I also have a better appreciation of sea shells, they are incredibly structured  and complex to paint at times... I have learned a lot from painting this series and have scrapped a few works that were close but not working. I am happy with the remainder 25 works that hopefully will be picked for showing soon - Mark
